Prayer Ministry
We are deeply committed to developing a culture of prayer at Sanctuary Church. We believe that prayer isn’t just a ministry of the church, but it must be absolutely central to the church. Jesus calls the church to be a House of Prayer for the nations (Matt. 21:13), so we want to devote ourselves to the ministry of prayer.
No amount of strategy or planning can replace the need for the Spirit of God to move in power in our church. Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” On any given Sunday you will often see people huddled up praying over each other.
Prayer Room
We want to cultivate a movement of prayer and worship for Houston where we seek God and contend for revival. We do this through corporate prayer gatherings (at 1021 Campbell Road) both midweek and before our Sunday gatherings.
- Thursdays 6-7am: We meet early on Thursdays to seek God, pray through scripture, and pray for our church and city.
- Sundays 3:15-3:45pm: We gather for 30 minutes before our Sunday gatherings to pray and ask God to be at work. This is a time of intercession for our service.
Our prayer room in Houston is open for anyone to join no matter what church you attend.
Prayer & Fasting
There are seasons where we will call the church to a dedicated time of prayer and fasting. This may be in response to a need in our community or in petition for God to move on our behalf. Our next corporate fast will be in February during Awaken Houston.
Many in our church have a set rhythm of 24 hour fasts from food from Sunday evenings to Monday evenings. We have a group text for those committed to this to share prayer requests. If you’d like to be added, email [email protected].
Resources on Prayer
We believe that the only way to become a praying church is to be a church filled with praying people. We want to be dependent on God and devoted to prayer. Here are some of our favorite resources on prayer:
Sanctuary Kids
We believe Sanctuary Kids is one of the most important ministries here at Sanctuary. We are excited to join with families as we partner together to raise the next generation to passionately follow Jesus, become like Him in every area of life, and lead others to do the same.
First Time?
When you arrive at the main entrance, you will see the Kids Check-In table on the right side against the wall. Our check-in team will greet you and help you sign in your children for the first time. We will then direct you to one of our kids classrooms where our teachers will meet you and your kids.
We have three classes: Babies – 1 year olds, 2 – 3 year olds, and PreK – 2nd graders.
We hope to expand this to include 3rd-5th graders soon.
What happens in Sanctuary Kids on Sundays?
On any given Sunday in Sanctuary Kids, whether it’s your first time or your hundredth time, we want your family to experience the tangible love and care of Jesus through our faithful teachers. Your kids will have fun playing games, doing crafts, singing in worship, and listening to a lesson taught by our teachers from the Gospel Project curriculum.
Info For Parents
Safety is our top priority in Sanctuary Kids. We take extra care in providing a safe environment for kids to learn and play. All Sanctuary Kids team members are background checked and trained to be aware and vigilant about child safety. Feel free to click through some of these topics to learn more. If you have any other questions, please contact: [email protected]
Check-in Process
In order to protect the kids in our care, we require that all of them be registered and properly checked in. Checking your kids in is easy! Simply enter the lobby and head to the table on the right by the kids ministry hallway. A team member will be there to greet you and your family and help you get checked in.
Communication During the Service
We use a simple text message alert system to communicate with parents. Please keep your cell phone accessible during service in case we need to notify you.
Snacks
We provide snacks to kids during service. Please be sure to notify our team at kids check-in if your child has any food allergies or food limitations.
Small Groups
At Sanctuary Church, we believe discipleship is more than a class or program — it’s the greatest calling on our lives. Our small groups are discipleship environments designed to help you follow Jesus, become more like Him in every area of life, and lead others to do the same.
We want our small groups to form people into the image of Jesus for the mission of God in their context. We do this by pursuing God’s presence, people, and practices as we pour out for the glory of God and the good of others.
Info For Parents
These groups are where the church becomes family — where we share life together, grow in our faith, and live on mission together. Through prayer, the Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit, our small groups will be the primary environment for spiritual formation and renewal across our city.
