Worship God through giving to Sanctuary Church

A man raises hands in worship at Sanctuary Church in Houston, TX

We respond to the gospel by bringing our first and best because God gave His first and best in Jesus. We believe it is the joy of every follower of Jesus to respond to God’s surpassing grace by worshipping him through generosity.

We invite you to prayerfully consider practicing the way of generosity through financial giving.

We are officially incorporated with the state of Texas and are set up to receive direct giving. All gifts are tax deductible.

Our Generosity Liturgy

A small team of trusted voices in our church crafted this liturgy after reflecting on the over thirty passages of scripture related to money, stewardship, and God’s heart for generosity. We recite this each week to remember God’s generosity towards us and to be formed into the ways of Jesus. It’s a prayer to God and a shared commitment to one another.

Jesus, You are the giver of life. Everything we have comes from you. You are gracious, benevolent, and kind. We are your sons and daughters – loved, protected, and blessed.

We are often tempted to pursue greater wealth for comfort, security, and approval – but it is never sufficient. Only you, God, can meet the deepest needs of our hearts. Your enduring presence encourages us to give freely.

We give sacrificially because we know you are honored by a generous heart. Move our hearts to give in secret: to the poor, to those in need, to each other, and to your church.

Holy Spirit, as we walk with you, lead us to give joyfully, sacrificially, and regularly. Keep us from the deceitfulness of riches and deliver us from our greed. Open our hearts and our hands to increase in generosity.

Let our giving be an act of worship. Amen.

Five Ways to Give

The easiest way to give is through our online giving platform (Church Center). You can make one-time gifts or set up recurring contributions.

It’s much easier to budget and forecast when people commit to regular giving.

We have two funds set-up:

  1. Internal – If you are currently part of Sanctuary Church, please select the internal fund.
  2. External – If you worship elsewhere, but want to support the planting of Sanctuary Church please select the external fund.

Before and after our services you may drop any offering into the offering boxes located in the back of the worship area. These are handled by trusted, non-staff members of our church.

Mail any checks to our mailing address:

Theology on Giving

We believe it is the joy of every follower of Jesus to respond to God’s surpassing grace by worshipping him with their financial resources.

We believe that the Old Testament standard of the tithe (10% or higher depending on your understanding) no longer applies today. However, Jesus regularly expands the requirements of the law to address the heart. The posture of a believer ought to be, “If we were expected to tithe 10% under the Old Testament law, how much more should we give as those who have God’s grace and new life with him?”

We believe the 10% tithe should be a goal to aim for and ultimately exceed as you grow in your relationship with Jesus. The New Testament teaching on giving can be summarized as regular, sacrificial, and cheerful. While we do not want our gospel partners to give under compulsion, we do believe we are commanded to support the work of ministry with our finances. (Malachi 3:10, Matt. 6:24, Acts 2:45, 1 Cor. 16:2, 2 Cor 8-9, 1 Tim. 6:17-19).
